And so it begins.

July 4, 2012 by Rika Leave a Comment

Well, hello! It’s been awhile. I’ve been drowning in to-do lists and work. I was crazy when I thought I could do this two full-time job thing until the end of September. I absolutely can’t, so it’s a good thing I’m leaving early. I’m exhausted and cranky (sorry to everyone who has to deal with me at either workplace). I’ve gotten TWO eye infections in the last few weeks. I’ve never had a damn eye infection in my life. What the hell? I know I need to slow down and rest but the countdown on my calendar (what’s up 38 days!!) reminds me to keep pushing.

My gelato shop boss gave me Sunday and the holiday Monday off this week – the first two days I’ve had off both jobs since April 3. It was amazing!! My dive instructor from Roatan was in town and is one of my favorite people ever so I spent my days off with him asking for dive shop advice, catching up on island gossip and drinking way too much. If you’ve ever been to Roatan, you might recognize the little bottle I woke up beside:

I also had some exciting stuff arrive in the mail for me:

You probably can’t tell, but the scuba vacation brochure it came with is advertising a trip to Roatan in that photo above my wrist!

My dive computer arrived!! I love it! I wish I could learn how to use it before I go but (obviously) it only works while you’re diving. Hopefully I catch on quick.  I also had to pay $57 in customs fees on it…making it a whopping $3 cheaper than buying it in Canada. I decided to just have my local dive shop order my regulator and wetsuit for me since it doesn’t seem to be that much cheaper to buy across the border once you add the customs fees.

I have spent the rest of my time at doctors appointments, arranging mobile storage to be dropped off at my place at the end of the month, changing my address on everything to my parents’ address, buying more dive gear, pondering if I should get a pink color conversion for my regulator, getting a power of attorney for my mom to access my bank account while I’m gone, informing my credit card company that I need to access funds with my card while in Honduras, cutting off my electricity and internet at the end of the month, changing my tenant insurance to storage insurance, figuring out what to do with my cell phone contract (still up in the air on this one) and selling basically all my furniture (I decided it was cheaper to sell it than to try to pay to store it all). I’m going to be giving my notice at both jobs in a couple weeks (and then you can all meet the real me!)

I sound organized but I’m actually a huge procrastinator and it doesn’t help that I’m so busy with both jobs and spend most of my free time cooking or doing laundry. However, once it comes down to crunch time I always get my ass in gear. Now that I’m moving out of my place in 3.5 weeks I am under the gun, so I’m getting stuff done and crossed off the list as fast as I can.

I still have a lot to say about where I’ll be doing my dive courses and why I chose it, but that’s for another day. In the meantime, enjoy these photos of where I’ll be every day starting August 12:
