The time has come....for me to finally get my own place here in West End. I have been living with anywhere from one to six other people since I arrived here last August! My roommates decided to get their own place, and it was high time that I found my own digs as well. I think 28 is too old to still have roommates! I know some people love it and for the most part I've had positive experiences here, but it was just time for my own place and my own space. So it's just me and my dog ...
Life
A bunch of Brazilians and a headache.
We've had a group of 12 divers show up without a reservation at work and between that, more fun divers, 2 open water courses, an advanced open water course and 3 refreshers all this week (with only me and one other instructor), this is the first time I've been online in ages. My pocketbook is happy but I have a headache!how i feel after teaching that many courses in a weekAnd for all the doubters, I have only crashed my new scooter once so far, and it was totally Bobby's fault... ...
Roatan Month 8 Roundup
I've been living in West End for 8 months now! Wowwwwwwwww. Time flies when you're having fun :)me in cozumel. photo credit: my awesome friend alexWhat's been going on this last month?I disappeared for a bit, mostly due to holy week celebrations and an insanely busy work schedule! I wrote a little piece on why living on Roatan is like camping 24/7 I showed you lots of diving photos since that's all I've been doing I shared tons of exciting ...
When you’re up, you’re up.
I've written many times on here about the weird roller coaster that is Roatan. Longfellow was right when he said, "when she was good, she was very good indeed but when she was bad she was horrid". There isn't much middle ground here. It seems like things are either awesome or shitty. I'm on the upswing at the moment! The first awesome news is that I'm moving to my own place! I will miss my super nice apartment and my roommates, but I'm moving into town which is way more convenient ...
Under the sea is where I’ll be.
I've been doing that thing again where I work my ass off and don't go on the computer for a week.I'm diving more than I ever have been and it's been amazing! And since I'm too exhausted to tell you all about it, here is my last week in photo form instead. Enjoy!me giving a dive briefingthe odyssey wreck... i'm leading this dive. see all the tiny divers around the huge ship? it's over 400' long and it's sitting at about 110' deep at the bottom!me at the ...
Life here is like camping 24/7.
It shouldn't shock me after 8 months of living here, but there are so many things I do here that I would never do back in Canada. When I think about it, it makes me feel like I'm camping. When we go camping in Canada, all bets are off. We eat shitty food, nothing gets cleaned properly, dirty clothes are the norm and we don't shower. And then we go home and never ever do any of those things because they're disgusting.camping during a surf trip to tofino, BC So without ...
Hey stranger. It’s been awhile.
I wish I had something more exciting to tell you all since I disappeared two weeks ago, but it's Semana Santa (Holy Week) here in Honduras and on Roatan that means one thing - PARTY!!favorite dress, favorite bar, favorite song, stupid faceI, however, do not get to partake in as much of this crazy week as I would normally like to... I'm busting my ass at work in a serious way right now. We are understaffed and overbooked, and our compressor is broken so every other night ...
Roatan Month 7 Roundup
I guess it's back to calling it the Roatan roundup, after months 5 and 6 weren't even spent here. I'm back on the island! Still trying to figure out for how long... but I'm here today, and that's what counts. The last month brought some big changes, most notably leaving south Florida and heading back to Roatan. I was lucky enough to get my job back here and have gone right back into most of my life the way I left it here before I left on the yacht. It might be routine, but routine on a ...
A Year of Awesome.
Cubicle Throwdown turned one year old this week! (source)How can I even begin to recap the last year? It's been a year since I first came to Roatan and learned to dive. It's been a year since I fell in love with this little island, and felt the pull of the 'Roatan Vortex'. It's been a year since I decided that life is short, and I'm not spending the best years of it sitting behind a desk doing something I don't enjoy.I had no idea what I was doing when I set up ...

1. Yes, I'm home! Back in West End and so happy to see Roatan again. I managed to get my first rum punch within 15 minutes of arriving. It was really surreal coming back here as I arrived exactly a year after visiting Roatan for the first time. I remembered leaving with my temporary open water diver & advanced open water diver cards, saying goodbye to new friends and telling myself that someday I would end up here and become a dive instructor. And...a year later...I DID ...
