Thank you to the people who leave tips in tip jars.
You totally don’t have to, it’s not like I’m serving you at a restaurant or anything… I know you had to wait in line for 20 minutes to order your gelato, and then the server had to rush you a bit to order because we had people out the door and while we’d really love to give you 10 samples and tell you all about our amazing flavors, we just don’t have the time when it’s busy. But thank you for leaving us a tip anyway. Thank you for leaving an even bigger one when I give your little girl the special pink gelato we keep hidden away in the back, with a pink cup and pink spoon. Thank you for leaving more when I give you a little bit of the other flavor you really wanted even though you only paid for a one flavor cup and I’m not supposed to. Thank you for telling me to keep all the change when your dog peed on the floor and we had to clean it up.
I know I am often sarcastic about this gelato shop job on this blog, but I really do love people who leave tips in the tip jar. There is absolutely no obligation to so we really appreciate it when people do (especially since we have to share them between about 10 people). If you leave a big one, I write a “T” on your ticket and when you get to the server you bet your ass she’ll give you a little something extra. Didn’t know I was doing that, did ya?
Your tips bought a girl working two-full time jobs a manicure and pedicure for hands that are ragged and raw from washing my hands 50 times a shift, and feet that have been standing up for too far long on the second 7-hour shift of the day. I really needed this so thank you, generous people!

I am constantly impressed by your unfailing commitment to your dream and what you will do to get there. I honestly can't fathom working two jobs, so the fact that you manage to do both so well, amazes me! I can't imagine dealing with the people you do with even a modicum of grace, so I would say those tips are well deserved!

Thank you Steph! I am actually impressing myself a little bit too, I am not exactly known for being so determined and doing something uncomfortable to get what I want. I haven't ever done this before so I'm still trying to figure it out but the fact that there is a definite end date and a really sweet reward at the end sure helps.

This almost makes me want to go back to a service industry job for the tips… almost.

Don't get too excited Dana…I got $80 for two weeks of full-time work. I would definitely make more as a server, but the thought of actually serving rather than just slinging gelato from behind a counter makes me tired just thinking about it.
