The Best Dive Sites in Honduras

November 1, 2013 by Rika 12 Comments

If you’ve ever been diving in Honduras, you know some of the best diving is right where I am – in the Bay Islands chain (Utila, Roatan and Guanaja) off the eastern coast of Honduras. We have healthy coral reef, lots of fish and pelagics, short boat rides and patrolled Marine Parks to make sure the diving stays great for generations of divers to come.

I’m so excited to let you all know that I’m now a contributing author over at ScubaDiveDestinations.com, which is a killer resource for diving around the world started by Jon Rowe. I’m thrilled to have a partnership with a growing site about something I’m passionate about, so this is a great fit. This website offers ScubaPoints, which is a customer loyalty program where you can earn points by booking with selected dive shops and then redeem as a discount on future dive trips. It’s a pretty cool concept and I’m stoked to be a part of it!

hey mom look at me! i’m on the front page! so is my friend ashley. woohoo! also, jon wrote my description there. i did not say that i am an exceptional writer. i do think i’m a damn good dive instructor though 🙂

I’m looking forward to sharing posts here as I write them, but for now I’d love for you to head over and check out the scuba diving in Honduras page, which is authored by none other than yours truly! What do you think?

Disclaimer: I make no money from contributing to ScubaDiveDestinations.com. I just happen to think it’s rad, and I’m proud of my hard work on the Honduras page so I wanted to share it. I also get a TON of emails asking me for diving recommendations in the Bay Islands, so here it is for all those who ask!

Guys, make sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter … there’s lots of extras posted there that don’t make it onto the blog. Plus it makes shiny new posts about diving happen. So there’s that.

That's the best kind 🙂 Check out Palmetto Bay Plantation, Turquoise Bay, Camp Bay, Pristine Bay or Paya Bay then! Let me know what you choose! The high season is December through April… but it's rainy season from November – March so that makes the viz worse (and obviously less beach days). My favorite time of year is around May-June….not so many tourists, cheaper prices and great diving before it gets too hot out for summer.

I like the secluded beaches and dive sites! Thanks for the info. Any season better than another?

Hi – there's really no 'wrong' place to stay on Roatan. It depends on your budget and what you're looking for in your diving holiday. West End is more popular with backpackers and partiers, although it's nowhere near as wild as Utila. There are some nice resorts there as well, but nothing big and all-inclusive like the mega resorts in West Bay. West Bay has nicer beaches but they get crowded on cruise ship days. They have lots of all-inclusive resorts and the snorkeling off the beach is great. The east end of the island (Camp Bay, Pristine Bay, Turquoise Bay, Paya Bay) and south side (Barefoot Cay, CocoView Resort, Fantasy Island) is more remote but you are rewarded with secluded beaches and dive sites that are never busy. So it really all depends on what you're looking for. Shoot me an email if you need more info! 🙂

Yeah dude! I just found it today… been looking for you forever! I changed the link up there. So funny when Jon was like "well I have this one other girl writing about Roatan, her name is Ashley" and I was like "yep, I know her!!". Loved your article today by the way 🙂

Wow, you're so lucky (and skilled and hard working, of course)! Congrats! It's always nice to have your hard work acknowledged and appreciated, especially in such a good fit.

You have no idea how much I love the fact you are so passionate about diving. I might find such a passion myself 🙂 (apart from travelling of course).

I think your passion for traveling is the same as my passion for diving! And doing it on your budget is just amazing. You inspire me!! xo
