100 Days of Summer

January 17, 2013 by Rika 4 Comments

So technically way more than 100 days of endless summer now from Vancouver to Roatan to Belize to Mexico to Miami… but 100 posts on Cubicle Throwdown! I’ve had this blog for nearly a year now and this is my hundredth post. Yay me!

What’s new in Miami?

Not much actually. I’m still hanging around waiting for the yacht to get here with my dive gear.

I’m starting my STCW-95 safety course next week so that will keep me busy. After that I’m planning to do my Megayacht Interior Operations course and my Powerboat II course. That should take just over two weeks and then I’ll be set to look for work on yachts!

I’m helping a friend renovate a foreclosure he just bought in Ft. Lauderdale that needs some serious work. I have been busy painting! As soon as the flooring goes in this week then I’m going to leave the cabana in Miami Beach where I’m staying, and move in with him for awhile. It’s a lot closer to school for me (it’s in Ft. Lauderdale), but I still am going to have to rent a scooter to get back and forth. Expect hilarious scooter stories since I have no idea how to ride one!

And I finally managed to meet up with Dana from Our Wanderlust, after a couple close calls in both Calgary and Vancouver last year when we tried to get together but it never quite worked out. Dana and her husband Juliano left the corporate life in Calgary behind and moved to south Florida to get their yacht crew qualifications (exactly what I’m doing!) and to find work on boats. It was great to talk to someone who had recently been through this. She is a riot and I had a blast hanging out in Miami with her! We had drinks & lunch at the Miami marina, shopped in South Beach, hung out at the beach for a bit, and I finally got my first real coffee in six months. It was tons of fun and hopefully this will give her a kick in the pants to get updating on her blog 🙂

Me and Dana welcoming everyone to Miami Beach!

Dana retrieves the car keys after leaving them on the sign after our impromptu photo shoot! Success!
Coffee at Aroma… finally a decent iced americano!!
leccalecca gelateria – do you know what was filmed here? I do now!
