I’m on day 14 of 25 of my great Canadian summer holiday. I’m still hanging out with my family in the vast prairie of Saskatchewan, where the sky is never-ending, the nights are chilly and the mosquitoes are giving Roatan’s a run for their money.
I only had 10 days here in Saskatchewan and I spent 3 of them in the neighboring province of Alberta at my grandparents’ 60th wedding anniversary, and another 2 to the ‘big city’ of Saskatoon a few hours north of my hometown for my little brother’s 27th birthday. It has been crammed with fitting in friends, and I hate the short time frame and all the traveling but I’m doing my best to see everyone because I honestly don’t know when I’ll be back again. I’m leaving tomorrow to go back to Vancouver for the rest of my trip – I have another wedding to attend and some serious quality time to get in with my best friend before I head home to Roatan.
In the meantime, here’s what I’ve been up to in photo-form:
my brother and i decided to make an addition to our clean-eating diet… dim sum 🙂 |
my brother driving his truck with a cowboy hat on. not doing much for the saskatchewan hick stereotype. (note: he’s a structural technologist, NOT a cowboy. just fyi.) |
well. i went to the dump. that was neat. and for the record, it’s a lot nicer than roatan’s dump. i guess that’s not surprising. |
my brother’s birthday dinner at home – he cooked the steak, i made the salad. best beef i’ve had since i left canada! roatan does not fare well in the cow department. |
so if your friend you haven’t seen in like 10 years is a tattoo artist and she’s really busy and you want to see her… you go get a tattoo. this is sushi tattoo #4.. red snapper. go see alana at bloodline tattoo company in moose jaw!! |
fancy teppanyaki birthday dinner for my brother in saskatoon… sadly this was the only photo that turned out. |
That’s it for now, and sorry to my Instagram friends who already saw all these. I have more photos from my fancy new camera but I won’t be downloading and editing them until I get back to Roatan. 12 days…. the countdown is on.

You're tattoo! So funny, sushi themed tats. I've heard it all now. Glad you're enjoying yourself at home. I go home in December. Which reminds me I need to order my tickets before prices go up. You need to put your pic of dinner on Pinterest. It looks like a professional setup.

Hehe yeah they are pretty funny, that's sushi tattoo #4! Thanks for the compliments on dinner, it was a team effort with my brother…maybe I will pin it! I <3 Pinterest, totally addicted 🙂

This all just sounds so very Canadian (minus the sushi tats, cute!). Glad to hear you are making the most of your trip – hard to do sometimes! I know what you mean. Somehow my 3 weeks in Winnipeg just fizzled away and now I'm back on the road to Ontario. Boo-urns, school.
CubicleThrowdown says
Haha yeah, steak and the dump are pretty much Saskatchewan staples!

I'm pretty sure that chair is at the Medicine Hat Lodge. We used to stay there for NYE when we were really young. I was just there again this summer – my parents book us pool side rooms so we can waterslide with my niece. Good times 😉

Good guess Jay – you're right! My grandparents live in Medicine Hat so we stay there when we go to visit. I didn't make it on the waterslide this time, but we went to town on it the last time we were there 🙂

It's not possible to miss the waterslide with my niece – in fact, because of her, I think I've been on it more times as an adult than as a kid!
