Most travelers arrive on Roatan for a week. We only have a few airlines that run direct routes from hubs in the USA (Houston, Atlanta, Miami) and you can usually get the best deal by booking a week-long return ticket. The Canadian charters (Sunwing + Air Transat) have also started for the busy season and the Milan charters as well, and all the charters run on a one week schedule. A week is the perfect amount of time to explore Roatan!(Only have one day? [Hi cruise shippers!] Check out my 1-Day ...

A Trip to Tegucigalpa
A friend of mine recently invited me to tag along on a trip to the mainland of Honduras with her and her boyfriend. I had some paperwork to take care of, and since I didn't make it to Canada this year I thought it might be a nice break to go to a big city for a few days. (Read: I WANTED SOME MCDONALDS AND AIR CONDITIONING.) So off to Tegucigalpa, the capital city of Honduras, I went. It's not a popular tourist destination due to safety concerns, but if you have to go on an embassy run or are ...
What To Do On Roatan: 1-Day Itinerary
Whether you're on the island on a cruise ship call, or simply using it as a jumping-off point for further travel (full disclosure: when I first came here, I was supposed to fly into Roatan for a day and then move on to Utila to do my dive courses... it took me TWO YEARS to make it to Utila!), you can still experience a lot in a day on Roatan. Read on to see my recommendations if you have just a little time on this beautiful island...(Have a few days to spend here? Check out my 3-Day Itinerary ...
This Island is Trying to Kill Me (Or: That Time I Got Dengue)
This is not the first time Roatan has tried to kill me.There was the entire first year that I was here and had allergic reactions to the sandflies and mosquitoes, had several staph infections in the bites on my legs and earned the somewhat unsavory local nickname of 'Sore Legs' from the islanders....There was the time I fell down a concrete ramp...There's been a few more I haven't mentioned due to legal issues and/or my mom's sanity. But this one has been the worst. You guys, I got ...

New Tourist Visa Procedures on Roatan
had mentioned the new-ish Honduran visa procedures in a previous post, but I am getting asked a lot of questions from readers planning to visit, move to, invest in, or retire to Roatan.Let me first be VERY CLEAR that I am not an expert, a lawyer or any other kind of official. I am simply someone 'on the ground' who has been through the procedures and has seen how it has been working since it's been put in place (late August 2014). I am also not making any sort of statement of what I ...
Roatan FAQ – Part 1
The #1 thing I receive emails about is questions from people who are visiting or thinking about moving to Roatan. And they all ask me the exact same questions!! I thought I better start putting together from FAQs so that people can read through these first before emailing me since I just don't have the time to give full, detailed answers over and over. I hope people find this helpful! If you have other questions you would like answered in Part 2, please leave them in the comments ...
The Best Dive Sites in Honduras
If you've ever been diving in Honduras, you know some of the best diving is right where I am - in the Bay Islands chain (Utila, Roatan and Guanaja) off the eastern coast of Honduras. We have healthy coral reef, lots of fish and pelagics, short boat rides and patrolled Marine Parks to make sure the diving stays great for generations of divers to come.I'm so excited to let you all know that I'm now a contributing author over at ScubaDiveDestinations.com, which is a killer resource for ...
