I have a ton of stuff to post about my recent trip to the Bahamas, but I am back in Ft. Lauderdale, sick with a kidney infection (ONE DAY after my travel health insurance ran out) and running around with a million things to do before heading home to Roatan on Sunday morning. And now I'm sitting here stuck in the house waiting for the weather to clear up, because I can't ride my scooter in the rain and today is the one day it's decided to rain during my 6 weeks in Florida. Gahhhhhhhhh! In the ...

Liebster Blog Award!
I'm so flattered to be nominated for a Liebster Blog Award by Jessica at Ways of Wanderers!A little background: Liebster Blog Awards have a bit of internet mystery about the origin, but the basic idea is that up-and-coming bloggers create 11 questions, tag 11 other new bloggers (apparently defined as less than 200 followers) and answer the questions the tagging blogger gave to them... and the chain goes on and on to help people stumble upon new blogs and gain followers, while getting ...
Month 6 Roundup
Here is my month 6 roundup, which apparently I can no longer call the "Roatan Roundup" since month 5 and 6 I haven't even been in Roatan...Today marks half a year away from Vancouver. HALF A YEAR YOU GUYS! This is the longest I've ever been away from Canada! I am forgetting what poutine tastes like and how to build igloos. (Jokes, people. Okay, only joking about the igloo part. I fuckin love poutine. And I would really like some right now.)Month 6 was mostly spent in Miami Beach, Ft. ...
I’m awesome.
I've been a little lost this last week. I don't really know what I'm doing or where I'm going next....I kind of do, but not really. I have plane tickets but I'm not sure if I should. I don't have a plan, or what I consider a plan. I always have people telling me how courageous and confident I am, and how awesome my life must be, but I don't really feel like that right now. I feel useless, drifting aimlessly and not all that cool to be honest. I'm being pretty hard on myself. I need to get ...
Million dollar toilet paper folding.
Another week, another course down. I'm now a certified junior yacht stewardess, or so my many pieces of paper say. I've spent the last week doing all kinds of things I never thought I'd do, like learning how to fold the end of toilet paper into diamonds. Because apparently rich people who own yachts enjoy their toilet paper being folded into diamonds.I also arranged flowers...And got a little tipsy during the wine & cocktail seminar...And I learned how to fold towels, iron, ...
I can fight fires, save lives, and put on a lifejacket.
I haven't been around all week!Wanna know why? You're looking at a brand-new STCW graduate! That means I've completed standardized basic safety training and can work on boats around the world. It also means that I jumped in a life raft in the pool, did some CPR on a dummy, and did full on real firefighter training. It was SO FUN!!! STCW is made up of four training modules: Personal Survival Techniques, Personal Safety & Social Responsibility, First Aid & CPR and Basic Firefighting. ...
“Home”-sick.
I've been away from Roatan for nearly a month now. I remember being so surprised at feeling homesick after I had been there for only six weeks. I missed the comforts of home - sushi, my hula hoop, going to the movies, etc. When I look back on it now, that's understandable. But after two weeks traveling on a yacht, and now two weeks and counting hanging out in Miami with no particular return date set in stone...I'm homesick. For Roatan.Even in my own head I ...

100 Days of Summer
So technically way more than 100 days of endless summer now from Vancouver to Roatan to Belize to Mexico to Miami... but 100 posts on Cubicle Throwdown! I've had this blog for nearly a year now and this is my hundredth post. Yay me!What's new in Miami? Not much actually. I'm still hanging around waiting for the yacht to get here with my dive gear.I'm starting my STCW-95 safety course next week so that will keep me busy. After that I'm planning to do ...
Expats don’t have everything. Weird, right?
I have gotten a lot of feedback on Facebook and here about my current adventure. Ever since I decided I wanted to walk away from my corporate 9-5 job and live on a tropical island, I have had people telling me all kinds of things. You're so lucky. I wish I could have your life. Your adventures are amazing, I'll never be able to do that. I'm jealous of you.In no way to I want to discredit how fucking awesome my life is. It's crazy, it has its ups and downs, but it is pretty amazing and I ...
