Happiness

Lazy days.

October 27, 2012 by Rika

It's been a really, really nice week.I passed my dive instructor exams and spent this week doing speciality instructor courses. It was much more chill and I got some fun dives in, which I was missing like crazy. I always tell people diving is my yoga - I have a hard time getting 'zen' in my life, but as soon as I hit the water and start going down my brain finally turns off and gives me a break for 55 minutes. Someone at the dive shop was talking about underwater ...

Here's me and my Roatan family celebrating (one of my roommates did the course with me so that's his certificate too). It's been a reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaallllllllyyyy long road, but I did it. Day to day.

September 24, 2012 by Rika

I have sat down to write this three times now, and have come up with amazing excuses such as washing the dishes, sitting on the couch, and reading the physics chapter of my divemaster book to avoid it. I just keep thinking that I should wait for something interesting to tell you all about. Does anyone really want to know what I do every day here, even when it's not crazy and wild?Of course! That's why you're following along, isn't it? What happens when you leave the cubicle behind and move ...

I’m really here.

August 23, 2012 by Rika

I remind myself of that pretty much every day. I'm really here. I finally did it. And it's going just fine! Before we get started here, I'd like to encourage you to check out a couple blogs that friends of mine are writing:Kelsey at Get Fit. Be Married. is writing the cutest blog of all time about her recent engagement and wedding planning/fitness goals. She even gave me an awesome shoutout in her very first post. I miss seeing her at work every day and this has been a ...

Everything falling together instead of falling apart.

August 2, 2012 by Rika

I knew this would happen.I knew right from the beginning that so many things would be stressful, that I would feel like I couldn't do it, like nothing was going my way. But I knew in the end that it would all work out. And while I'm scared of jinxing myself, I feel okay saying now that it's all worked out.I hit my budget. I'm on track to have $2000-$3000 above my budget, which is absolutely fucking incredible given the fact that I decided just over 5 months ago that I'd follow this crazy ...

She's royal.

May 24, 2012 by Rika

Still in West End, Roatan.... still loving life. The rain has stopped and the weather is gorgeous! We've had a beach day and today my friend started her open water course. I came along for the confined water part to test out my new equipment and she ended up not being able to complete it. Poor girl had a panic attack underwater. Some people just aren't cut out for it. She is going to try a Discover Scuba course instead - if she can do two more skills then she can try an open water dive. We will ...

Hola from Honduras.

May 21, 2012 by Rika

That is a pretty misleading title. Not because I'm not in Honduras (I am!) but because I am in my beautiful second home of Roatan, and they don't speak Spanish here! Well, they do, but English (with a delicious Caribbean accent) is most islanders' first language.I arrived yesterday, promptly got a rum punch in each hand and have been catching up with friends since. There is definitely a different vibe here in the slow season. It's also really rainy and gross right now and that always tends to ...

Thanks people.

May 15, 2012 by Rika

Thank you to the people who leave tips in tip jars. You totally don't have to, it's not like I'm serving you at a restaurant or anything... I know you had to wait in line for 20 minutes to order your gelato, and then the server had to rush you a bit to order because we had people out the door and while we'd really love to give you 10 samples and tell you all about our amazing flavors, we just don't have the time when it's busy. But thank you for leaving us a tip anyway. Thank you for ...
